Insight Report

Executive Summary

Consumers in the US are set to spend an average of $1,007 this holiday shopping season, or 4.1% more than they planned to spend last year, according to the National Retail Federation’s (NRF’s) annual holiday spending survey, conducted by Prosper Insights & Analytics. We parsed the data and discovered a few gems that can help retailers and brands as they plan for this holiday:

  • Department stores came in a close second to e-commerce sites as millennials’ intended holiday shopping destinations.
  • The #1 gift millennials want to receive is clothing and accessories.
  • Millennials are more likely than any other age group to plan to take advantage of sales and discounts during the holiday shopping season and to buy non-gift purchases.
