Independence Day Spending to Fall, as Fewer Americans Plan to Celebrate in 2018

  • More than 62% of people surveyed plan to attend a cookout or barbecue, while about 43% plan to attend fireworks displays. Only 13% of those surveyed said that they will travel over the holiday this year.
  • The average household will spend $75.35 on food for cookouts and barbecues, up 2.6% from last year.
